certain evenings
i have a burning need
for solitude

and please do
hold the pity
for someone else

solitude is

neither an aloneness
nor a loneliness

but an integration
and an empathy

it was the storm
that kept us awake
last night.

it was the cacophony
of ardor and danger’s
midnight dance.

how many footsteps
from moving to sensing?

how many storms?
how many sleepless nights?

how many awakenings?
